Con Men

April 20, 2018

The best con men don't know they're con men. Michael Lewis

Lewis made this observation on a BBC interview when he was talking about his book The Undoing Project, the partnership of Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman that produced prospect theory and started behavioral economics. The interview led to the Trump election and his analysis of the Trump election using TK's behavioral economics. Lewis focused on Trump's overconfidence and bald statements of certainty (everything was bad, bad, bad and he would fix it all). A key point is that behavioral analysis can be used about Trump, his voters, future employees (that's the entire executive branch), and relationships with Congress and the rest of the world. The discipline also can be used to analyze the horrible foreign wars discussed in the previous blog on Directorate S.
